SLB has launched its ChampionX nano-enabled chemical technology portfolio, a new set of production chemistry solutions built to raise output and performance from existing oil and gas assets.
The first product, Extended Release, is a nano-enabled scale squeeze treatment. It protects wells against scale buildup for longer than conventional technologies. Operators can use it to lower operating costs and cut repeat interventions in mature and complex production environments.
In offshore deployments, the technology has delivered more than twice the treatment life of conventional scale-squeeze solutions. That result means crews need fewer maintenance visits to the well.
Ross O’Dell, Business Line Director for Production Chemical Technologies at SLB, said the future of energy production depends on getting more value from assets already in operation. He said Extended Release shows how nanotechnology can give longer-lasting scale protection and help operators keep production steady with fewer interventions.
O’Dell called the product the first step in applying nanotechnology to a wider range of production and recovery challenges.
SLB said the portfolio will grow to include solutions for production optimization, flow assurance and enhanced recovery. Research, laboratory testing and field validation will support each new offering.
