Background-
HCA Healthcare UK has partnered with Danish medical technology company VentriJect to launch a first-of-its-kind VO2 max test that needs no exercise.
One of the UK’s leading private healthcare providers, HCA Healthcare UK will add VentriJect’s Seismofit device to its doctor-led reAssure health screening program. The device delivers an estimated VO2 max reading in under three minutes.
Seismofit uses seismocardiography to record the tiny mechanical vibrations the heart creates with each beat. Its sensor sends this data to a secure server, where a proprietary AI algorithm produces a VO2 max score and shares it through an app.
Patients stay at rest during the test, so people with physical limitations can now access detailed data on their cardiorespiratory fitness. Until now, measuring VO2 max required intense effort, such as a step test or a cardiopulmonary exercise test.
The American Heart Association has long urged regular fitness measurement and calls VO2 max the strongest indicator of overall health.
The reAssure screenings last 45 to 135 minutes and cover heart health, cancer risk and genetic testing. Patients receive an age and gender specific roadmap and a personalized report on their results.
Dr. Niaz Khan, Chief Clinical Officer at HCA Healthcare UK Primary Care, said the technology removes physical barriers and helps clinical teams deliver more precise, proactive and personalized preventive care.
VentriJect CEO Mikkel Kristiansen said HCA’s reputation for adopting clinical innovation makes it an ideal partner for expansion in the growing UK market.
