Background-
Syz Group has turned Syz Capital, its alternatives arm, into a dedicated private equity platform and named David Weintraub as its chief executive.
The relaunched business will invest directly in small and mid-cap B2B companies across Europe. It also offers a private equity program that gives investors a spread of privately held companies overseen by specialist investment managers.
Weintraub arrives from KIRKBI, the private holding company behind the LEGO Group, where he was an investment director. He also holds board seats at medical resource company AMBOSS and learning platform Kahoot!.
Earlier in his career, he spent nearly four years at Alantra, previously known as N + 1 Swiss Capital, and ended there as an associate in M&A advisory. He also worked as a business analyst at Credit Suisse.
Eric Syz, chief executive of Syz Group, called the hire an important step toward a focused private equity platform. He said alternatives remain a core conviction for the group, and the narrower focus will build on its strengths and open long-term growth.
Weintraub said he is eager to lead the next phase. He described Syz Capital as a firm with a solid base and clear direction, and said its sole focus on private equity will deepen its expertise.
In a separate move, the group’s legal assets business will exit through a management buyout and operate as Hykra Capital SA. Founder Oliver Maurice and his team will join it.
