Background

The artificial intelligence firm Anthropic has made a private filing for its IPO in the US, thereby being among the first large generative AI companies to embark on the process of going public. The move places the company ahead of rival OpenAI in the race to launch a public listing and offers investors an early opportunity to assess the financial strength of a leading AI developer.

Anthropic did not reveal the size or terms of the proposed offering. The company recently secured fresh funding at a valuation of about $965 billion, making it one of the most highly valued AI firms globally. Its public debut could become one of the largest and most influential technology listings in recent years.

The filing comes as investor interest in artificial intelligence remains strong. AI companies have been generating big sums of money in private markets, mostly because the demand keeps rising for more sophisticated technology. Anthropic, which is famed for its Claude Code AI Assistant, has become one of the biggest players in this flourishing market space.

According to market analysts, this upcoming IPO might be a way to gauge investor interest for such firms through public markets versus private ones. The timing of their IPO ahead of other competitors, especially OpenAI, puts them in an excellent position in this regard.

At the same time, some experts suggested that OpenAI may benefit by watching how investors respond to Anthropic’s financial disclosures before moving forward with its own listing plans. OpenAI is also reportedly preparing for a confidential IPO filing.

Confidential submissions allow companies to advance regulatory reviews while keeping detailed financial information private until later stages of the process. The development shows how competition is getting more intense among the top AI firms as they look for more capital, try to grow their market footprint and claim real leadership in the worldwide AI industry.
