Background:

General Motors (GM) reported solid results in 2025, with U.S. sales rising 5.5% for the year, even though the fourth quarter saw a 6.9% drop. The company remained the top-selling automaker in the country, moving over 2.85 million vehicles, including about 703,000 in the final quarter.

The increase was driven by strong demand for electric vehicles, larger SUVs, and affordable models like the Buick Envista. GM also gained half a percentage point in U.S. market share, reaching 17%, and boosted its electric vehicle sales by 48%, making it the second-largest EV seller in the U.S., after Tesla.

“People are buying our vehicles across all price ranges, and we are ready to keep growing in the coming year,” said Duncan Aldred, GM’s North America president. The overall U.S. car market is expected to have grown about 2% in 2025, reaching roughly 16.3 million units.

Stellantis, which owns Jeep and Chrysler, saw total U.S. sales fall 3.3% as it works on its recovery plan. However, Jeep sales rose slightly, marking the brand’s first annual increase since 2018. “We are making steady progress in rebuilding our U.S. business, with growth in sales and market share,” said Jeff Kommor, head of Stellantis U.S. retail sales.

Other automakers also reported gains in 2025, including Toyota with an 8% increase, Hyundai and Kia posting record growth of 8.4% and 7%, and Honda rising 0.5%.

GM continues to hold the lead in the U.S. market while expanding its electric vehicle business, and Jeep shows early signs of improvement in the country.
